Sarah Garza recently moved back to Texas after attending school in Los Angeles, CA. When asked about the move she simply puts it, “I missed Tex-Mex.” Not only does Sarah have a love for Mexican food but she also enjoys being on stage, and has since she was a child. She started acting at the age of six when she joined Kids Acting Studio in Austin, TX. She participated in several productions while with Kids Acting including, Little Mermaid, Annie, Grease, and Fiddler on the Roof. Sarah moved on to act in high school productions where she landed several roles, her favorite being that of Ann Deever in All My Sons. This play was taken to the UIL competition where she was awarded Best Actress. Upon graduation Sarah headed off to Los Angeles where she attended Occidental College. She participated in several productions while at Occidental: Hair, Eleemosynary, Saint Joan, Side-Swiped, and The Trial and Death of Fred. In May 2009 she graduated with a B.A. in Theater. Since graduation Sarah has had the opportunity to travel through Europe, a trip she says she will never forget. When asked what her favorite city was she says, “Venice, hands down. Who knew it could be so fun to get lost?”
Although Sarah’s primary background is in theater she has had the opportunity to participate in film projects through the University of Southern California, Occidental College, and the University of Texas at Austin. She’s also had the chance to do some background work on CBS’s hit show, Criminal Minds.
Sarah sees herself not only as an artist, but also as an educator. While in Los Angeles Sarah served as the drama teacher at the Los Angeles Music and Art School; while teaching she also had the opportunity to direct the youth in two productions, Peter Pan and The Lion King. Sarah carried her love of teaching to Austin and soon became involved with Theatre Action Project. Not only has Sarah taught in the TAP after school programs but also will be doing community outreach for the organization. In this role she will have the chance to expand creativity amongst youth and build on already existing art programs.
When Sarah is not acting or teaching she enjoys writing. Her play All We Have Is Now was was selected as a staged reading for Occidental's New Play Festival(Spring 2009). Currently she is taking the play and formatting it for film with hopes of festival circulation within the next few years. Sarah also enjoys reading, photography, dreaming and playing the Native American flute. Oh and ask her if she can do any bird calls, you might be surprised.
